Fire Ravages Historic UConn Building On Storrs Campus Fire crews from the University of Connecticut and other agencies responded to a fire at UConn’s historic Whitney House on the Storrs campus. The fire broke out in the house, one of the oldest structures on campus, located near Mirror Lake around 6 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 20, said university spokesperson Stephanie Reitz.  The building was not currently in use and no injuries were reported, but the damage is extensive and is being assessed, Reitz said. Attic Fire Heavily Damages Norwalk Home A fire that started in a finished attack, heavily damaged a Norwalk home with smoke and water. The fire started around at the Norwalk home located at 150 Chestnut Hill Road around 1 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 18. The residents were able to self-evacuate. No one was injured, said Deputy Chief Michael McCallum. Some 29 firefighters who responded with two trucks were able to bring the fire under control in 25 minutes, McCallum said. The home sustained heavy fire and smoke damage. The cause of the fire is still under investigation, McCallum said.

Fatal Shooting: Victim Found At Waterbury Residence, Police Say An investigation is underway after a man was found shot dead at a multi-family residence in Waterbury. The incident took place around 7:20 on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 137 Robbins St. According to Lt. Ryan Bessette of the Waterbury Police, the man was found after officers responded to the home for a gunshot complaint. The victim died shortly after officers arrived on the scene, Bessette said. William Dicke, age 42, of Rhinebeck, was found guilty on Friday, Jan. 13 of manslaughter and second-degree murder for the murder of Danielle DiStefano, said Dutchess County Assistant District Attorney Kristine Whelan. Arrest Made In Beating Death Of Bridgeport Homeless Man Police have arrested a Bridgeport man for the alleged brutal beating death of a homeless person. The assault took place in Bridgeport around 9:15 p.m., Wednesday, Jan. 11, in the 800 block of Fairfield Ave., said Scott Appleby, director of Emergency Management for Bridgeport.
