Leonia Rotarians Support Indian Eye Doctor's Fight To Eradicate Blindness LEONIA, N.J. -- The Rotary Club of The Palisades -- an international organization devoted to providing humanitarian services -- recently hosted a doctor who is fighting to eradicate blindness in India. Dr. R.V. Ramani, founder and director of the Sankara Eye Institute in Coimbatore, addressed the club at its December breakfast about his organization’s role and mission. Doctors at the institute, he told club members, perform hundreds of free eye operations every day. To date, it has done more than 1 million such operations. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) Child and Adolescent Network (CAN) helps parents of children with behavioral, emotional and mental health issues. The fundraising event will be held at 7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 8, at the Bergen Performing Art Center in Englewood. Students hope to raise $5,000 for the Dr. John Greico Scholarship Fund.
