Horticultural 'Crown Jewel' Set To Bloom In Somers' Lasdon Park
SOMERS, N.Y. – In just a few months, nature lovers will be able to visit a tropical rainforest, without having to travel to South America, Africa or Asia, said Ted Kozlowski, manager of the Lasdon Park and Arboretum in Somers.
Ten years – and a lot of blood, sweat, and tears – in the making, the park’s new Glass House Conservatory is set to open on Saturday, June 17.
Its first exhibit, titled “The Rainforest: Tropical Treasures,” will feature, not only exotic plants and flowers, but water features and the sounds of such jungle denizens as macaws, jaguars, and poison dart frogs.

Garrison Resident's Civil Rights Photos Displayed In Peekskill
PEEKSKILL, N.Y. – An exhibit of the works of Leonard Freed, a photographer known for his iconic images of the Civil Rights Movement, will be on display at the Field Library in Peekskill.
Freed, who lived in Garrison with his wife, Brigitte, died in 2006 at the age of 77.
The exhibit, “Marching On,” is a carefully curated selection of 22 timeless images from Brigitte (Klück) Freed’s personal collection.

North Salem Ambulance Corps Holding 5th-Annual Gala
NORTH SALEM, N.Y. -- The North Salem Volunteer Ambulance Corps (NSVAC) is gearing up for its fifth-annual gala next month, which is a major fundraising event.
The gala will take place on Saturday, March 4, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. It will be held at Salem Golf Club, which is at 18 Bloomer Road in North Salem.
