An (almost) lifelong Westchester resident, Sam has reported on all facets of Westchester since he graduated from Ryerson University with a degree in print journalism, including stints at North County News and The Examiner. A film columnist for WAG Magazine, Sam's moviegoing expertise has been profiled in the New York Times and he was a featured guest on VH1's Big Morning Buzz Live.

Torso Found In Elizabeth River Identified As 34-Year-Old Man: Prosecutors The body parts recovered from the Elizabeth River last month have been identified as those of a 34-year-old Elizabeth resident, authorities announced on Tuesday, June 13. Woldy Ventura-Cruz's death was determined to be a homicide, Union County Prosecutor William A. Daniel, Elizabeth Police Director Earl Graves and Elizabeth Police Chief Giacomo Sacca said. Union Woman Killed In Summit Car Crash (Updated) A 51-year-old Union woman was killed in a one-car crash in Summit on the afternoon of Tuesday, June 13, police said. The crash occurred on Orchard Street and Harvard Street, police said. The unidentified woman was driving a 2005 white, four-door Toyota Camry at a high rate of speed when her vehicle struck a tree, police said. She was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The cause of the accident is under investigation, police said.

The renowned journalist and Jersey City native died on Sunday, June 11 at the age of 62, according to his obituary. Dad Kills Daughter In North Jersey: Prosecutors A 27-year-old Bayonne woman was fatally shot by her father late in the evening on Monday, June 12, authorities said. Drowned Firefighter Mark Batista 'Always Put Family First' Mark Batista's family was his whole world. Batista, a firefighter for the FDNY, died while trying to save his daughter from drowning on Friday, June 9. Batista, 39, went into the waters off the Sylvania Avenue beach around 8:30 a.m. in an effort to save her, when she got caught in the rough surf. Jersey City Man Gets 18 Years in Prison For Fatal Stabbing: Prosecutors Steven Bardsley, a 57-year-old Jersey City resident, was sentenced to 18 years in state prison on Friday, June 9 for fatally stabbing a man in the neck in July 2021, authorities said. On July 24, 2021, Jersey City Police responded to 151 Cambridge Ave. where they found Steven Bochman stabbed in the neck, Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez said.
