Snow Map: These States Most Likely To See A White Christmas, Old Farmer's Almanac Says A white Christmas could be on the holiday wish list for parts of the Northeast, but the Old Farmer’s Almanac draws a sharp line between snowy scenery and bare ground. The publication’s Christmas outlook favors snow cover in its Northeast and Intermountain regions, as well as Alaska, on Christmas Day, Friday, Dec. 25. Its Northeast region includes much of inland New York and northern New England, extending into parts of Massachusetts. The Atlantic Corridor gets a different prediction: no white Christmas. That distinction matters for readers comparing nearby communities. The map’s forecast b…

Change In Weather Pattern Coming After Long Dry Stretch: Timing A stretch of warm, rain-free afternoons is nearing its end across the Northeast. The National Weather Service’s Weather Prediction Center said Monday, Nov. 2, that high pressure will keep the region dry and mild through midweek, then a frontal system will bring widespread rainfall later in the week. The change will end a dry stretch that has lasted about 2 1/2 weeks in many areas. Election Day on Tuesday, Nov. 3, will bring the week’s warmest conditions. Much of the region will see sunshine, a southwest breeze, and highs in the upper 60s to low 70s. That includes the heavily traveled Inters…

Snow Outlook: National Weather Service Releases Winter Forecast Will this winter bring buried driveways or another season of waiting for snow? A new federal outlook offers clues about what the Northeast could face. NOAA’s National Weather Service released its winter outlook Thursday, Oct. 15, favoring above-average temperatures across the Northeast and wetter-than-average conditions along the East Coast from December through February 2027. That combination leaves an important question unresolved: How much of that precipitation will fall as snow? The NOAA outlook does not predict seasonal snowfall totals. Its maps show the odds of warmer, colder, wetter…
