Danbury Volunteer Firefighters Holding Fundraising Shred It Day DANBURY, Conn. -- Volunteer firefighters at Wooster Hose Company No. 5 are helping residents clean up their homes with their shredding fundraiser on Saturday, May 9. The event will run from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Rogers Park next to the tennis courts. The shredding will be secure and professional, done by Shred It. There is a suggested donation of $5 per box, but all donations will be accepted.

New Darien Business Helps College Graduates Land Those First Jobs DARIEN, Conn. -- Perpetual Ambition, a new Darien-based company, is offering a $2,000 package of job finding assistance or guidance for students graduating from college. After the Class of 2015 takes off the caps and gowns, they will be greet by mixed job market news. According to an April report from the National Association of Colleges and Employers, employers will hire 9.6 percent more college graduates this year than in 2014. Weston Hosts Southern Time Trials For Special Olympics Athletes WESTON, Conn. -- Athletes of all abilities from across the region have an opportunity to compete in track and field, aquatics, gymnastics and tennis as Special Olympics Connecticut holds its 2015 Southern Time Trials at Weston High School and Weston Middle School. The event will be on Saturday, May 9, from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., with opening ceremonies beginning at 8:30 a.m. The Southern Time Trials are presented by GE. Westport Receives $1.3M FEMA Grant To Replace Saugatuck Bridge WESTPORT, Conn. -- The Town of Westport has been awarded a FEMA grant to replace the aging Saugatuck Bridge, First Selectman Jim Marpe announced. U.S. Rep. Jim Himes (D-4th District) and U.S. Sens. Richard Blumenthal and Chris Murphy (both D-Conn.) applauded the grant. Briarcliff HS Students Honored By National Hispanic Recognition Program BRIARCLIFF, N.Y. -- Four Briarcliff High School students have been honored by the National Hispanic Recognition Program for their outstanding academic performances. Christina Arroyo, Nicholas Beninati, Alexandra Linares and Sebastian Rojas were recognized from among approximately 5,000 high school juniors nationwide based on their PSAT/NMSQT scores and grade point average. Each will receive a certificate of recognition from the College Board’s National Hispanic Recognition Program for their academic success.

Holmes Gymnasium Turns Into Children's Museum For STEM Event In Darien DARIEN, Conn. -- Holmes School fourth- graders from Miss Satter's class enjoyed a visit from Mobile Ed's STEM Museum, a workshop that turns a school gymnasium into a state-of-the-art children's museum focused on STEM: Science, technology, engineering and math. Students explored hands-on science activities including building a parabolic arch out of foam blocks and learning how this incredibly strong structure functions in the process.
